🔥 Who's Recruiting
SacJobs runs the fair, and the Golden Sierra Job Training Agency, the public workforce board for Placer, El Dorado and Alpine counties, lists it on its own hiring calendar. The organizer's roster splits into four groups.
- Contractors and field employers: Altec Industries, Atlas Disposal, B&M Builders, Clayton Homes, Edges Electrical Group, Nour Solar, Road Safety Inc., T. M. Cobb and Tricorp Group, among others.
- Public agencies: Caltrans, the California Department of Industrial Relations, Sacramento County, Sacramento Regional Transit and SMUD.
- Training and apprenticeship: the Sacramento Central Labor Council plus several trade schools.
- Military: U.S. Army and U.S. Navy recruiters.
The roles on the call list run the whole job site: electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, welders, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, mechanics, CDL drivers, ironworkers, concrete finishers, surveyors, estimators, safety coordinators, site supervisors, laborers and apprentices. No employer has published a headcount, so treat that list as the trades being recruited, not a count of open seats.
🎓 The Workshop Worth Staying For
From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., a side room hosts "How to Get Hired at a Construction Company," covering how contractors actually hire, how apprenticeship pathways work and where the entry points are. Seating is limited and the workshop takes its own registration, so sign up on the organizer's page if you want a chair. The smart move is to work the floor from 4:00, step into the workshop at 5:30, then go back out for the last half hour with sharper questions.
📋 How to Show Up Ready
- Several printed copies of your resume, even a one-page one
- A short written list of the trades you're interested in, which the organizer specifically asks for
- Your driver's license, plus any certifications, CDL or OSHA cards you hold
- Clothes you'd wear on a first day on the job, which is the organizer's own dress code
🔎 Where to Aim This Fall
Sacramento's trades market stretches from new rooftop solar in Natomas to road work along Highway 50, and the public side, Caltrans, SMUD and SacRT, offers steady maintenance and field careers that rarely show up at a general job fair. Get your search moving before October 21 so you walk in already knowing who's posting.
